While on the Isle of Man for the Southern 100 races Ben and Tom Birchall were presented with the Spirit of the TT trophy that they won after their double podium finish at this years TT races.
Although the Cofain by Klaffi pair had been told they were to receive the trophy they had to rush off directly after their second race to catch a flight to Hungary where they were to contest the third round of the world championship and were disappointed to miss the presentation.
But the opportunity arose to rectify this when the pair returned to the Island last week for the Southern 100 races they were finally presented with the 2012 PokerStars Spirit of TT Award.
Becs Cubbon, HR director of PokerStars was on hand to present the trophy and said: “I am delighted for the Birchall Brothers who have truly displayed the spirit required to be TT Racers. As a local company we understand how important the event is to the Isle of Man and we are delighted to be involved with it.”
Team boss Klaus Klaffenbock, a three-time TT champion and a former World Sidecar champion himself, commented: “The team has done better than anyone could have possibly expected even before the challenges that they faced. I certainly wasn’t expecting even a single podium so to achieve two is a remarkable achievement.”
Ben Birchall added: “It is such a great honour to receive this award as it is not given out lightly which emphasizes just what a fantastic event the TT is. It is nice to be acknowledged in this way for our efforts.”
