Newly crowned world sidecar champions Ben and Tom Birchall from Mansfield head the list of entries for the annual Sunflower meeting at Bishopscourt in Northern Ireland on Sunday.
The Mitchells of Mansfield brothers sealed the 2009 FIM F1 Sidecar World Championship with a second place behind outgoing champion Pekka Paivarinta at the final round of the series which took place at Le Mans in France recently and this weekend will be the brothers’ first appearance as world champions.
Ben and Tom are to contest the two sidecar races that take place on Sunday following the two qualifying periods on Saturday. They have always supported the Sunflower meeting held at the 1.83-mile circuit near Downpatrick, County Down and have won the races in the past.
The brothers are delighted to be taking their world championship winning outfit over the Irish Sea to the Emerald Isle and are looking forward to the weekend and the prospect of two good, competitive races.
Practice takes place on Saturday with two races on Sunday, the first in the morning and the second mid afternoon.
